Havent had it yet, but, seeing a surgeon next week. Had a Appendectomy about 2 yrs ago & noticed my "innee" looked like an "outtee". Didnt give it any thought because they just got done inserting scopes & tools thru my navel for the surgery. I thought that was the norm. A GI doctor mentioned it on a routine exam. Its protruding more since the surgery, so, its good Im seeing a general surgeon.

I had umbilical hernia repair surgery 6 days ago, on a Tuesday, and am back to work today, the following Monday.

Getting up and into bed was painful for the first couple of days. I had no problems sitting though and it actually felt good to get up and walk around some, albeit slowly.

I took pain meds for about 72 hours though the pain wasn't real bad. It just sometimes caused me to split my breath a bit, so that was my cue to take another pain med.

I have some minor light bruising around my belly button, and my belly button itself is sensitive to the touch, but not painful.

I'm not driving much, being lucky to live real close to work and grocery stores. It is a bit difficult sitting down into my car, and awkward looking over my shoulders.

Sleeping has been a bit of a problem, being that I do favor sleeping on my sides, which I was unable to do at all for the first 4 nights, and only to a limited degree on just my right side the past two nights.

While I was overweight when I first noticed the appearance of the hernia, I lived with it for some 8 years, getting my weight down and strengthening my stomach a fair amount with the use of a bowflex machine. Perhaps that has contributed to what has been overall a fairly easy post surgery period to this point.

It's nice to have an innie again instead of that fleshy outtie I had since 2000.
